Rushaina is a passionate health and wellbeing professional, turned registered psychologist. Her previous experience includes providing wellbeing services, pastoral care and building sustainable client relationships. Rushaina works at the frontline, advocating to break cultural stigmas associated with mental illnesses, and supports marginalised communities. She regularly promotes the need for culturally responsive services to ensure that the diverse psychosocial needs of patients are met.
She completed her internship within the Respiratory Medicine service at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. Post-registration as a psychologist, she worked at TBI Health providing psychological support to clients who have experienced injuries and/or require rehabilitation from health conditions. She has experience working alongside clients with various physical health conditions and the impacts of this on their mental health and overall wellbeing.
Rushaina utilizes a holistic, compassionate and client-centred approach within her practice, with a key focus on strengths and values within her work. Alongside this, she weaves culturally-informed practice within the biopsychosocial model to ensure the diverse needs of her clients are met. Her primary focus is to foster strong therapeutic rapport as she believes this is foundational to effective psychological therapy. Her key areas of interest include: mood, adjustment and anxiety disorders, chronic pain and illness, working alongside clients who have physical health conditions, preventative strategies (ie. general wellbeing/stress management/positive coping). Rushaina understands every client is unique and can tailor your therapy from a wide range of evidence-based modalities such as CBT, ACT, DBT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing and somatic psychology.
Outside of her passion for psychology, her hobbies include travelling, adventure sports, listening to various genres of music, exploring new cuisines and reading (especially historical novels). She would love to walk alongside you on your journey to health and wellness.
